The email you just received is not announcing a major crisis, nor does it mean your licenses are about to expire. Instead, what you’ve received is simply a newsletter from Chaos.

Chaos uses this channel to share critical updates and important information with its users.

To be clear:

  • It is not an extortion threat.
  • Your licenses are safe and fully functional—provided you carefully follow the steps outlined in this tutorial.

As clearly stated in the email, what you’ve just received is a “gentle reminder” to update your License Server before January 28, 2025.

And most importantly: it’s free.

Why is this happening?

The email was sent because many users have not yet updated their License Server and are still using an older version on their PC—one that is about to be discontinued.

In the coming months, the new version of V-Ray 7 will be gradually released for all 3D modeling platforms. Consequently, the License Server also needs to be updated to the latest version to ensure compatibility and functionality.

What is this the License Server?

The Chaos License Server is a secure and highly encrypted centralized system that allows you to access the licenses for the Chaos products you own.

Essentially, it acts as the “bridge” between your Chaos product and the Chaos account associated with a specific license.

Step #2: What to Do After Receiving the Email

As clearly stated in the Chaos newsletter, the only thing you need to do is download the latest version before January 28, 2025.

A – Log in to Your Chaos Account

The first step is to log in to your Chaos account interface. To do this, go to my.chaos.com, and fill in the required fields with the email and password associated with your account.

B – Access the Download Section

Once you’ve opened your Chaos Account interface, you’ll find the Download option in the top menu, as shown in the image below.

Once you click on the Download option, you’ll be taken to the dedicated page containing all the download files for your currently active software.

In the list, simply locate and select the product “License Server”.


C – Download the Latest License Server

After finding the License Server among the available products (as shown in the image), just click the “Download” button.

D – Install the Latest License Server

Once the download is complete, simply double-click on the file you just downloaded to start the installation and update the License Server.
